Yahoo Search marketing in a new way…

By Find2k | December 12, 2006

It seems to me that Yahoo Search Marketing is now somehow like Google AdWords, they have removed the “tab of position” and made it a “tab of Est. Avg. Position” and the competitor’s bids are now so called as the “ Avg. Historical Bid Range”.

There is one more feature, which Google AdWords haven’t thought of and that is “Latest Available Bid Range” which is on the link of “View Bids”… Now this “View Bids” doesn’t open in a pop-up window but it get refresh there only and show you a range of bids.

For example:

This is the snap shot of one of the campaigns where you can see two keywords: car repair Arizona and car repair phoenix, one is standard and other is advanced match. The next column is Est. Avg. Position after that is the field for bid and then is Avg. Historical Bid Range and as you can see that I have clicked on View Bids for the keyword: car repair phoenix where you can again see a bid-range of 3.54 – 3.46 and for the above keyword I have kept the link as it is.

From 18th December they are starting there up gradation process for all the Yahoo Search Marketing accounts. As soon as that get started I will keep you all updated with the new features and also my view on the “Look and Feel”.

Also on the main Interface page of Yahoo Search Marketing the message displayed is:

Important Changes to Bidding Information

The Manage Bids pages have been modified to introduce three new data points, while other data columns have been removed. More details.

Well, this was my experience with Yahoo Search Marketing Advertiser account, let’s see how the marketers, the Yahoo Search Marketing explains this feature.

In the FAQ section of YSM, when someone asked:

Are there going to be changes to the bidding information displayed in my account?

Yes. There have been changes to the bidding information displayed on the Manage Bids page under the Manage Sponsored Search tab of your account. The Top 5 Max Bids, Position and Your Cost columns have been removed and have been replaced with columns labeled Estimated Average Position, Average Historical Bid Range and Latest Available Bid Range.

Hmm…. That means all account will be changed one-by-one… and soon the bid management for all three main Advertising programs will become somehow same…

Estimated Average Position – This column displays an estimate of the average position your listing may achieve on the results page, based on your bid and the historical bids of other advertisers. If you enter a new bid in the Max Bid column and click Update Bids, the estimated average position will also update.

Latest Available Bid Range – This column displays the latest available bid information for the positions at the top of the search results page for each of your keywords. For example, if the latest available bid range displayed for one of your keywords is $.75 - $.25, that means that the advertiser in position one is bidding $.75 and the advertiser in the last position at the top of the page is bidding $.25.

Average Historical Bid Range – This column uses historical data to provide you with a bid range for the positions at the top of the search results page for each of your keywords, allowing you to see what the bid range has been over recent days and/or weeks.

Hmm… That still seems to be a good feature but where we will find the best part of Overture of watching our client’s bids right there while we open our account. Now like Google we have to keep tracking the competitor’s via yahoo.com and their partners.

Do you have any tips for using the new bidding information displayed on the Manage Bids page?

Here are some things to keep in mind when using the new bidding information:

When you submit a new max bid, that bid is live. We suggest that you be selective when changing your bids to fine-tune your estimated average position.

If you would like to estimate the position for multiple keywords, enter new max bids for all of the keywords instead of entering bids for each keyword individually, or use the Bid Options feature.

Hmm… That’s what I want to look at… How it will be more helpful now…

Why does N/A appear in the Estimated Average Position column?

You may see the value N/A appears in the Estimated Average Position column if the search volume for your keyword is too low to provide a forecasted position.

Ok… That means Low-Index search is N/A… Interesting!

The changes seems to be interesting… It will be fun for sure… Let’s explore and let’s talk…

Sharing is Improvement in Information…

Enjoy!!!
