Web 2.0: Need of online business today

By Find2k | December 31, 2007

I was attending this Web Innovations 2007 seminar held here in Bangalore and everyone there was just talking about Web 2.0, how it is different from Web 1.0 and what’s the revenue model for this technology/methodology.

Some of my favorite differentiation of Web 1.0 and Web 2.0:

Web 1.0 was all about giving information and Web 2.0 is all about sharing information
Web 1.0 was all about information and Web 2.0 is all about participation
Web 1.0 was all about the analysis of webmasters about the online users and providing them the data and Web 2.0 is all about user participation In giving feedback to the webmaster regarding the likes and dislikes on a particular website and it’s services.
Web 1.0 was webmaster driven and Web 2.0 is online users driven
Web 1.0 was all about me (the webmaster) and Web 2.0 is all about You (online customer) and me (the webmaster)

There is one question in our mind and that is “what will come In Web 2.0?” And the answer is:

Blogs (Weblogs): The online journals or diaries which are hosted on a Website and often distributed to other sites or readers using RSS (Really Simple Syndication)

P2P networking (Peer-to-peer networking): It is a technique for efficiently sharing music, videos, or text files either over the Internet or within a closed set of users. P2P distributes files across many machines, often those of the users themselves. Some systems retrieve files by gathering and assembling pieces of them from many machines.

Podcasts: They are the audio or a video recording, which is a multimedia form of a blog or other content available online. They are also distributed through an aggregator, such as the iTunes which was something great to the music lovers

And many more are there in the list.

The do-or-die struggle for growth now, large companies with strong revenue growth and high shareholder returns not only execute well but also almost always compete in the right sectors or segments at the right times.

Top-line growth is vital because companies that don’t increase their revenues run out of ways to drive their earnings and risk being acquired. For companies aspiring to grow, where to compete is just as important as how. To choose the right battlegrounds, they must match their distinctive capabilities with sectors where profitable growth is likely to occur.

Companies that have systematically lagged behind the competition should carefully consider their options.

I feel that this is going to be the next big thing… now the users will be the editors and now they will decide on what they want to read online.
