Google Experimental Search Results Page
By Find2k | January 29, 2008
Google Labs is testing some very cool new features on the search results page to improvise the search experience. These new features are expected to give us more control over the search results. Below is a glimpse of some these new search features on Google.
Alternative Views:
The alternative views include the Timeline View, Map View and Info View. These features basically help us find out key dates, locations, images and measurements.
Time line View:
This feature helps us find out dates for upcoming or historic events. This is very handy when you want to do research about some companies, events or the people. You can limit your search results to any range of years, months, or days with the help of timeline graph on the top of the search results or can even specify particular period of time in the text box on the right.

Map View:
This feature plots some of the key locations contained in your search results on a map. After clicking or zooming on an area on the map you can click “Update Results” button on the top left corner that updates and limits search results to that specific area you are looking in. Isn’t that cool

Info View:
In this view you have a control panel on the right side of the page with the options such as Dates, Measurements, Locations, and Images. You can update search results by clicking on these options and find information you are looking for with more ease.

Keyword Suggestions:
This is my favorite; this feature provides alternative suggestions to the queries we are looking for in no time.

Keyboard Shortcuts:
You can navigate search results more easily and quickly with the help keyboard shortcuts such as given below:
J - Selects the next result.
K - Selects the previous result.
O - Opens the selected result.
- Opens the selected result.
/ - Puts the cursor in the search box.
- Removes the cursor from the search box.

Left Hand Navigation:
This feature helps you search deeper for a particular type of content like products, patents or news. This new feature has navigation on the left side of the search results displaying tabs such as Video, News, Patents, and Shopping to help you filter your search.

Right Hand Contextual Search Navigation:
Same as Left Hand Navigation, this feature helps you search deeper for a particular type of content. This feature has a navigation box on the right side of the search results displaying tabs such as Video, News, Groups, Images and related search queries to refine you search results.
