Google AdWords answering questions

By Find2k | August 5, 2008

Nowadays, AdWords have started looking more onto customer’s FAQ’s. So there are few common questions which are asked on a regular basis to the Google team by the advertisers, so they thought let’s take questions one-by-one and start answering them via Blog to the user’s and update them.

These questions will seem simple to us, but think of an Advertiser who knows how Google AdWords work, but these question still remains in advertisers mind.

So let’s answer them:

Common questions: Impressions after page 1 - A frequent question about how ad impressions are calculated

Question:

If my ad appears on the third page of a search result, does it count as an impression if a user does not go to the third page of search results?

Answer:

No; impressions are only counted when a user visits a page that the ad appears on.

Now that certainly makes sense for a novice advertiser to understand these metrics.

As it is very important for advertisers to understand the difference between a keyword’s search volume, and the impression number provided on reports.

When viewing reports, a search term’s impressions represent the total number of users who actually visited a page that an ad appeared on when a search was PPC Advertising performed for that term. Therefore, according to Google, if an ad appears on the third page of search results and the user does not get past the first page of results, it does not count as an impression for the term searched for.
